Shyamola Khanna
Reaching 30/40 or now fifty was never, an issue for me personally. I saw the advertisements, heard friends around, read the precautionary, preventive, preservative articles warning and inducing fear of losing myself at dash dash dash ages.
And then I met Shyamola Khanna, 67, belonging to educated and revered lawyer Bong family, fell in love and married to a Panju fighter pilot.
The very first look of her conveys the spirit of Joie de vivre. All grey, wide smile, open gestures which attract you to unlock your secrets in the first 30 minutes of your meeting. Interesting indeed!
Shyamola, a teacher started teaching at the age of 20 and has continued to do so for 47 years at different levels from KG to MBA. It’s been eight years since she lost her husband, and these years turned out to be fresh chapters in her lifebook.
Besides teaching English to the recruited soldiers, she has also guided her housemaid’s two sons for the last 13 years..
Srikant and Saikrishan
Today, 19 and 20, Srikanth and Saikrishan both are tall, confident English speaking and well mannered young men.
This year Saikrishan has been shortlisted for the Taj Hotel Management studies. Both the brothers give the credit for their success to Shyamola mam who tutored, coached and guided them to become what they are today.
Shyamola adds with pride” I enjoy what I do. I look forward to dressing up and drive to AOC centre campus which is bursting with Gulmohar blooms at the moment. Teaching and coaching fills her soul with happiness.
She is a painter, a traveler, writer, grandmother and in every sense…..an inspiration for children and elders alike.
