I am the one who have not been so fond of pets and plants though I love to be in greens and woods and I love animals, whole load of them. Yet, the thought to own a pet never fascinated to me.
As it is said Life throws life at you, you catch it or miss it, its your need, want and choice based.
So, 9 years back a dog and a cat were gifted to me on my birthday by my loved ones.
So, the dog was named as ‘Sulphur’ and the cat, ‘Oxide’ by my sons against the elders’ wishes It was the sight to relish the games the naughty beagle pup and this some mixed bred kitten played.
They were happy with each other, eating and drinking together, running around, bathing and lying down together.
The Sulphur Singh was always happy and peppy and the don billu took his seat in the TV rack. At times guests would mistake him to be a stuffed toy. Where Sulphur would be sitting amongst all in the middle of guests, Billu, the don would watch everyone from the distance.
Billu chose Ramesh, our house manager as his master.
There used to be an amazing tiff between she cats to seduce Billu and Sulphur chasing them all away cats which would follow into the fight between the two. Billu would hit and nail Sulphur and both would retire into different rooms for a day or so.
Interestingly our innocent Beagle would always lick and smell Billu probably thinking him to be another of his breed.
So, the chase between cat n mouse continued only that the difference was the mouse was the dog here.
Years rolled by, they matured and they became white as we all and slowly all settled down with routine, care, love and passive anger, making up, playing, sleeping, fighting again…
They grew into a matured couple, each found their own space and comfort with the feeling of eternal togetherness. The love story continued……
Four days back the Billu stopped having food and water. He was diagnosed with jaundice, went through ultrasound, drip and in the morning Sulphur smelt Billu’s urine and his proud tail bent and he then glued with me.
I loved and caressed Billu and whispered in his ear to be fine, free from hospital visits the soonest and Sulphur licked him all over again.
I received a call from Billu’s Ramesh, crying uncontrollably that Billu is no more.
